报告人简介：José Oliveira博士在南非金山大学（University of the Witwatersrand，南非约翰内斯堡）学习化学，他于2000年在金山大学获得有机合成专业博士学位，研究方向为反应方法学与自然产物合成。之后，他在比利时安特卫普大学（University of Antwerp, Belgium）药学系当了一年的博士后研究员，开发用于分析大气中微量有机污染物的质谱技术。他于2001年1月加入约翰威立国际出版公司（Wiley-VCH)，担任德国应用化学杂志（Angewandte Chemie International Edition）的高级助理编辑及副主编。他还帮助推出了德国应用化学杂志的姊妹刊Chemistry–An Asian Journal，并担任该刊的副主编。2008年，他开始担任国际著名材料科学期刊先进材料杂志（Advanced Materials）的姊妹刊——纳米与微技术期刊Small的主编。Small杂志2011年期刊影响因子为8.349，位列顶级多学科期刊的行列，所发表的有关纳米和微尺度的研究涵盖了材料科学、化学、物理学、工程学、医学和生物学等多个领域。

报告内容简介：A highly competitive research environment with increasingly limited research funding has created a “Publish or Perish” attitude among scientists who are judged on the quantity rather than quality of their research articles. This presentation provides a brief overview of current trends and challenges in scientific publishing, some ethical considerations, how publishers and authors interact and influence each other, and how the publishing arena is being transformed. Tips will be presented on how to select an appropriate journal for your paper, what aspects of preparation and presentation to focus on from an editor’s and referee’s perspective, and hints for increasing the discoverability of your paper after publication.
